Joel Piroe now primed for Leeds exit within days as worrying PSR news emerges for 49ers Enterprises

Joel Piroe heads a list of players that could leave Leeds United during the January transfer window.

Although Piroe was vital to Leeds’ Championship title-winning campaign in 2024-25, the 26-year-old has been massively out of the picture this season.

Daniel Farke has played the Dutch striker just 10 times in the Premier League, naming him in his starting line-up just three times. And in those games, the ex-Swansea striker has unfortunately failed to score.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goalscoring streak has further lessened Piroe‘s chances of working his way back into Farke’s plans, meaning that a move away from Elland Road is something that will make sense for all parties this month.

Leeds have to sell players before accounting deadline in June

As is seemingly the case with most Premier League and Championship clubs these days, PSR is something that has to be taken into consideration when any transfer deals are done.

According to The Guardian on Thursday, Leeds’s PSR constraints are “very real”, and 49ers Enterprises have until 30 June to sell players in order to improve their figures.

While it is understood that Farke wants to add to his attack and seek cover at full-back this month, there’s also a chance that Leeds try to cash in on Piroe during the 32-day transfer window, which is now open.

As well as Piroe, Leeds could also sell Illan Meslier, who has been linked with a move away from Elland Road.

Jack Harrison is another player who could bid farewell to Elland Road before the deadline on 2 February.

Who could Joel Piroe join in January?

As it stands, Piroe hasn’t been linked with any clubs specifically.

It’s unlikely that another Premier League club would want him, so if he was to stay in England, a move back to the Championship would make sense.

However, Leeds paid over £10million when they signed the Dutchman from Swansea in August 2023, and it’s hard to see any second-tier club splashing out that kind of cash midway through the campaign.

Maybe a return to the Netherlands is on the cards for the former PSV striker? Or maybe a struggling team in the Championship that has plenty of cash to play around with, like Birmingham City, could roll the dice on the Leeds striker.

Either way, the Whites need to recoup what they paid for Piroe, otherwise selling him won’t do any good for their PSR situation.
