Joel Piroe exit takes new twist after new Daniel Farke admission at Leeds United

Joel Piroe will only be leaving Leeds United on loan before the end of the winter transfer window if there is a view to a future permanent exit.

Piroe was linked with a Leeds departure throughout January after struggling for game time in the first half of the season.

The 26-year-old has made just 11 Premier League appearances this term, with the majority of them coming as a late substitute.

However, the latest news coming out of Elland Road is that Piroe is likely to remain at the club beyond the transfer deadline, with Daniel Farke’s side unwilling to let him leave on a straight loan.

Daniel Farke gives new update on Leeds sales

According to Leeds Live, talk of a loan exit for Piroe looks futile as the Whites are only willing to let him depart if there is a purchase clause included, or it’s a straight-up permanent deal

The attacker has been the subject of multiple enquiries from Championship and overseas clubs, but is still expected to stay at Elland Road.

Jack Harrison has been the only first-team player to leave Leeds in the winter transfer window so far, joining Italian side Fiorentina on loan with a £6million option-to-buy.

Farke has confirmed that, since Harrison, no other player has asked to quit, including out-of-favour goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

It means that, unless the Whites force someone out the door in the last hours of the window, there will be no sales going through before the deadline.

Who could Leeds sign before the deadline?

Facundo Buonanotte joined Leeds on loan from Brighton earlier in the window, but the Whites have done very little else apart from that.

It is unlikely to be a blockbuster deadline day for the Whites, but there still could be one or two additions before 7 pm.

Farke is reportedly still keen on signing a new goalkeeper after recent mistakes from Lucas Perri and Karl Darlow in the Premier League, but it remains to be seen whether the West Yorkshire side can get a deal over the line.

Leeds could also bring former winger Jaidon Anthony back to Elland Road after his loan spell in the 2023-24 season, with Burnley demanding £25m for the 26-year-old, but that looks like media talk only.

Either way, fans want movement.
