Joe Willock open to Leeds talks as Newcastle exit stance emerges

Leeds could seal a late move for Newcastle star Joe Willock before the transfer deadline.

Daniel Farke is keen for additions to his squad before 2 February when the winter transfer window slams shut.

Leeds hold long-standing appreciation of the 26-year-old midfielder, but no move for his services has materialised so far.

The Whites have been handed encouragement on their interest in Willock after a new update on his future in the North East.

Joe Willock latest emerges from Newcastle as rival Premier League offer made

The Elland Road outfit are not the only Premier League side to like the midfielder who has played 171 times in the competition.

A report from Sky Sports on 31 January claims that Fulham have made an approach for the former Arsenal man.

It states that Newcastle are not interested in a sale, due to injuries to Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes, but also notes that the player himself is open to talks, while not agitating for a move away from St James’ Park.

Why Willock news could be positive for Leeds

The fact that Willock is open for talks is a positive development for the LS11 outfit, as it means he has not completely closed off the idea an exit, despite scoring his first goal of the season in the 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain earlier this week.

If the Peacocks can present an exciting proposal, therefore, Willock may decide to push for an exit to secure regular gametime, which he has not been blessed with so far this campaign.

He has only featured 12 times in the top-flight this season, and would almost be guaranteed to be a regular in the Whites’ side, as they fight to stay in the division.

Given the Magpies’ reluctance to sell, it may take a very lucrative offer to tempt them, but if the player tries to force the move, then surely, that would lower the price and make it affordable for the Yorkshire side.

It could be an interesting last few days of the market for Farke and Co, with a striker also on the agenda before the window closes, but if they could bring in the experienced operator, that would be the cherry on top of the cake.
