Joe Gelhardt at Hull training ground as Leeds United clause update emerges

Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt has been at Hull’s training ground ahead of his loan move to the Tigers, according to Beren Cross.

The Athletic journalist reported via his personal X account (14 January) that the deal is set to be a straight loan with Ruben Selles’ men not having an option or obligation to buy upon its expiry.

The journalist also added that both Yorkshire-based outfits believe that the deal will go through “without any issues“.

“Joe Gelhardt’s been at Hull City’s training ground this morning after yesterday’s medical,” he wrote.

“Each club expects it to go through without any issues. Expected to be a straight loan with no option or obligation to buy.”

Leeds United are doing the right thing by loaning Joe Gelhardt out

At the moment, Leeds’ striking ranks are full to the brim of talent with the likes of Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph the ones often chosen to lead the line.

It was shared earlier on Tuesday morning that after Gelhardt’s Elland Road exit, Patrick Bamford wouldn’t be sold on, which would leave Daniel Farke with three options for their number nine role [Graham Smyth, 14 January].

Gelhardt has hardly been given any minutes this season and to be quite frank, it feels like his career would start to stagnate if he was kept on the Whites’ bench for much longer.

Even though Farke is shipping the youngster off, the fact that there’s no option or obligation to buy within the deal shows that the German still believes the striker has a bright future ahead of him.

And, with Bamford now 31 years old and evidently injury-prone, it feels like the Englishman could be the perfect successor to Leeds’ talisman.

Only time will tell if the deal ends up paying off but at the moment, it feels like the best option for both parties.
