Leeds United are "not expecting" to allow Patrick Bamford to exit Elland Road in the January transfer window, according to Graham Smyth.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reported via the newspaper's website (14 January) that sources from within the West Yorkshire outfit confirmed that the Englishman is set to stay despite reported interest from Blackburn Rovers (Sun on Sunday).

The report also added that at the moment, the only transfers that are in play are the moves of both Charlie Crew and Joe Gelhardt who are each set to make their way to Doncaster and Hull respectively.

Leeds United are doing the right thing by keeping Patrick Bamford

Although the Englishman hasn't bene afforded much of a chance to play by Daniel Farke this season, it feels like he's still a valuable member of the West Yorkshire outfit's squad.

Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph have been the German's preferred options and at the moment, it feels like it could be set to stay that way.

However, with Gelhardt now on his way out, it leaves Leeds with just three number-nine options, which, when the injury history of the trio is taken into account, is probably the right amount.

And, although the 31-year-old hasn't seemed to be part of Leeds' plans this term, the inconsistency shown by Piroe and Joseph at times this season makes it feel vital that the Whites have a third option to choose form if needed.

Teams such as Wrexham have shown an interest in Bamford during the January window and if the second half of the 2024/25 campaign ends up being like the first half, it wouldn't be a surprise to see those sorts of clubs coming back in for him in the summer.
