Leeds United recruitment claim made as Dor Turgeman linked to Elland Road

Joe Donnohue feels claims that Leeds United are interested in signing Dor Turgeman from Maccabi Tel Aviv are “inflated”.

Israeli outlet Sport5 reported on 4 December that the Whites have “officially approached” Tel Aviv to sign the striker, but the Yorkshire Evening Post journalist is sceptical.

He pointed out that a club’s recruitment department usually only sounds out players and their clubs over a transfer, as opposed to making official moves.

“Reports in Israel suggesting a LUFC ‘approach’ for Dor Turgeman”, Donnohue wrote via X [4 December].

“The recruitment department’s job is to sound out potential targets and their clubs – doesn’t necessarily mean a bid is placed.

“This one feels it could be agent-led and interest somewhat inflated.”

Joe Donnohue pours cold water on Dor Turgeman to Leeds United claims

The Yorkshire-based club remain in a strong position to earn promotion despite falling to third place after a 1-0 loss to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday [30 November].

However, goalscoring appears to be an area of problem for Daniel Farke’s side, with Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph struggling to find the back of the net on a consistent basis.

Turgeman, meanwhile, has grabbed nine goals and four assists from 16 appearances across all competitions for Tel Aviv this season, displaying an eye for for a goal.

Donnohue, though, has now poured cold water on reports linking the Whites with the 21-year-old, dubbing the interest “inflated”.

It now remains to be seen if the Elland Road outfit nevertheless pursues a move for the Israel international when the transfer window opens in January.

It was only last year that Leeds United were linked with a move for Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Djordje Jovanovic, who they then sold to Basel to promote Turgeman [Sports Walla].

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are prepared to let this big-name player leave in January, with only the final details needing ironing out.
