Leeds United are ready to allow Max Wober ahead of the January transfer window amid interest from Red Bull Salzburg, according to Salzburger Nachrichten.

The newspaper reported [3 December, page 21] that negotiations are much further along, with only final details needing to be clarified ahead of the January window for a return to his former club.

It is understood that with Wober no longer playing a major role at Elland Road, Daniel Farke's side are open to the 26-year-old's exit and the transfer fee should not become a sticking point.

Leeds United to finally seal Max Wober exit?

Many fans were surprised to see Wober make a comeback into Farke's team ahead of the new season, having escaped Elland Road after Leeds' relegation to the Championship.

Of course, he was not the only player to make that decision, with Brenden Aaronson joining him in the same boat, but making a far better comeback under Farke since arriving back in England.

While his American teammate has made 18 league appearances so far this season, Wober has been far more of a bit-part player, making just two appearances off the bench in the Championship.

With Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon the first-choice centre-backs, the Austrian has barely had a look-in at Elland Road and could finally seal a permanent exit in January.

It would certainly make a lot of sense to get Wober off the books in the transfer window, with him being able to count his minutes on two hands this season, but Farke will need to be wary of his backup choices.

Injuries have been a common theme at Elland Road this season, especially in midfield, and if the same were to strike in defence, Farke could be left one centre-back short.

Leeds fans could be seeing a situation where one wantaway player is replaced straight away.
