Jesse Marsch quite 'sold on' Leeds United talent Leif Davis, could still leave Elland Road

Leeds United defender Leif Davis has been targeted by Ipswich Town, but he has impressed heavily in training, as per Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist has said on The Phil Hay Show podcast on 8 July that Davis has surprised Jesse Marsch in training.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to Ipswich Town, and they are said to be offering a lot of money compared to how much football he has actually played.

“From what I’m told, Leif Davis has done really well since coming back. Marsch has been quite sold on him,” said Hay on The Atheltic podcast.

“Ipswich are keen on Davis, they’re offering a lot of money in comparison to how much he has played. So he might exit.”

Stay or leave?

Davis returned to Leeds this summer after spending the last season on loan at Bournemouth.

He featured 15 times for the Cherries as they secured promotion to the Premier League.

The defender has less than 12 months left on his present deal at Elland Road, and it seems he is doing everything right to impress his manager.

If he continues to impress, Marsch could actually decide to keep him. Davis can play both as a left-back and as a centre-back, and he could be a valuable option for the club this season.

A move to the Football League could earn him more games, but his long-term future at Leeds could come under scrutiny. Leeds have Junior Firpo as their first-choice left-back while Stuart Dallas is another player who can fill that role.

Dallas won’t be fit to start for the next season, which means there is a window of opportunity for the young talent to grab his spot in the side.

In other Leeds United news, this Whites star has informed the club he refuses to participate in pre-season preparations.
