‘In a heartbeat’, ‘Will see us up’ – Some Leeds fans rave about reported £12k-a-wk striker hunt
A section of Leeds United fans on Twitter have been raving about a report which links the club with Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, as Leeds eye the signing of a new striker to replace Eddie Nketiah before the end of the month, 33-year-old Sharp is someone who has emerged on the Whites’ radar four-and-a-half years after leaving Elland Road.
Sharp has struggled for game-time since the Blades won promotion to the Premier League and has only started one top-flight fixture this term.
The £12,000-a-week [Spotrac] striker will celebrate his 34th birthday next month and while there are concerns about his age and the fact that he might struggle to cope with Marcelo Bielsa’s full-throttle style of play, there’s no denying he is a proven goalscorer in the Championship.
In 322 second-tier appearances, Sharp has scored an incredible 114 goals.
Between 2009/10 and 2019/20, only Jordan Rhodes [107] has scored more goals than Sharp [106] in the Championship [transfermarkt].
Leeds have Patrick Bamford to start up front in each game but what happens when he is injured or suspended or unavailable for whatever reason?
Having someone as prolific and as proven as Sharp to rely on could be a major boost to Leeds’ promotion bid and that is exactly what these fans think.
