Illan Meslier may have somewhat miraculously fallen upwards after leaving Leeds United.

After failing to appear for a single senior minute last season, the Frenchman has now joined Arsenal.

That means he will be in the squad of the Premier League champions immediately at the Emirates Stadium.

Meslier didn't kick up much of a fuss upon leaving, sending an emotional farewell after essentially growing up in Yorkshire.

Now, he joins David Raya and Kepa, two Spanish internationals with the former Brentford man amongst the world's best.

But, his comments after the move may not go down too well in LS11.

Illan Meslier admits anger after Leeds exit

Meslier's contract running down with no renewal was nobodies fault but his own at Elland Road.

The keeper was Daniel Farke's number one after the German arrived, but you simply can't make as many mistakes as he was doing.

Meslier was dropped for the final seven games of the Championship-winning season and simply never returned.

After leaving, he admitted it was still a special last season.

"Unfortunately, this happens a lot in the careers of players," he said. "But I never give up.

"I worked a lot mentally because I had a different perspective on football and training.

"It helped me a lot, to be honest.

"So, I come back this year with a lot of anger and determination."

Illan Meslier can only be angry at himself

Football is a brutal business, it isn't unfortunate if a player is dropped solely on performance.

Meslier must know he wasn't good enough at Elland Road and he can't strut around making people trying to feel sorry for that.

He may not have been in squads, but he was still playing the game he loves every day in training and earning thousands to do that.

Look at Karl Darlow, he stayed patient and took his chance.

That led to the Welshman overtaking not only Meslier but Lucas Perri too, ending the Premier League season in fabulous style.

Darlow is officially a free agent right now, but Leeds want to keep him, you never heard anything about the same with Meslier.

Meslier can be angry at himself for how things ended at Elland Road, but if that anger is misplaced anywhere else, he's embarrassing himself.

Unfortunately for him, it's not like he'll be playing much, if at all, with Arsenal.
