'I absolutely love him', 'Would be huge' - Many Leeds fans urge club to sign in-form Dutch int'l

Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to urge the club to sign AZ Alkmaar midfielder Teun Koopmeiners after he was initially linked with the Whites in the summer.

In September, Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath reported that Leeds had identified the 22-year-old as someone who can bolster Marcelo Bielsa’s central midfield options in the Premier League this season.

Of course, the Whites did not land the one-time Netherlands international but fans are desperate to see Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta push forward with a move for him this month to strengthen the squad.

Koopmeiners has scored 13 goals and supplied six assists in 25 appearances across all competitions for AZ this season.

Six of Koopmeiners’ goals have come from the penalty spot but for a deep-lying midfielder, who can also play in defence, his tally is ridiculously good. Last week, he netted two goals and assisted another as AZ beat PSV in the Eredivisie.

Stats by Wyscout show that the AZ captain ranks third in the Eredivisie for passes attempted this season [1145], which further illustrates how much of an all-round midfielder he is.

Koopmeiners is only 22, is scoring goals for fun, has a superb passing ability and is also AZ’s captain.

He sounds as though he would be an amazing signing for Leeds and that is why so many fans have taken to Twitter to show they want to see the Dutchman head to Elland Road this month.
