Huddersfield ready to sell Lewis O’Brien to Leeds United

Huddersfield are prepared to sell Lewis O’Brien to Leeds United before the transfer closes on August 31, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on August 22 [page 64] that Leeds and their Yorkshire rivals are currently locked in negotiations over a move for the 22-year-old midfielder.

It is understood that O’Brien is valued at £8million by the Terriers.

Is he good enough?

O’Brien has had a stop-start start to the season with Huddersfield due to COVID so he’s only played three matches in both the Championship and the Carabao Cup.

On August 1, he played a major role in the Terriers’ win over Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup as he scored in a penalty shoot-out victory.

However, in his two appearances against Preston and Sheffield United this week in the league, he’s been less than impressive.

Stats by WhoScored show that on Saturday, as the Terriers won 2-1 against the Blades at Bramall Lane, O’Brien completed just 50 per cent of his passes.

He played all 90 minutes but was also dribbled past twice, completed just one dribble of his own, won one of the three tackles he attempted and made two interceptions.

It really was a forgettable performance by the Leeds target.

If he’s going to play like that at Elland Road, he won’t last very long in front of a fanbase that is already a bit sceptical about a move to sign the ex-Bradford loanee.

In other Leeds United news, this big-money ace could be heading to the Elland Road exit doors.
