How Niko Sigur feels about late summer transfer as Leeds chase midfielder deal

Niko Sigur is being linked with an exit from Hajduk Split amid interest from Leeds United.

The Canada international has made a name for himself in Croatia after moving to Stadion Poljud in 2022.

Since 2025, the 22-year-old midfielder, who can also play at right-back, has been a regular fixture in Jesse Marsch's plans.

Multiple offers have already been made for Sigur in Split, with the Elland Road club also in the race.

The right-footed player seems comfortable playing at right-back for Hajduk, but impressed in the middle of the park for Canada at the 2026 World Cup.

With not long left before the 11pm English transfer deadline on 1 September, the midfielder's situation is worth watching closely.

Leeds aren't the only team chasing Sigur, with Celtic, Coventry City, Toulouse and Valencia also in pursuit of his signature.

The Canada international seems close to leaving Hajduk in the final days of the transfer window.

According to SportSport on 24 August, the midfielder wants to leave the Croatian club this summer.

The side from Split are also ready to sell Sigur if they can reach an agreement over his sale.

Hajduk want £3.4million to £4.2m to sanction the Canadian player's exit.

Celtic's offer has been rejected, while Valencia have also tabled a bid for Sigur.

In the coming days, the Burnaby-born player's situation is expected to be resolved.

What Niko Sigur transfer would mean at Leeds United

Leeds have an abundance of talent in midfield at the moment.

Ethan Ampadu and Anton Stach have started the new season in fine form.

Sean Longstaff, Ao Tanaka and Ilia Gruev are also at Daniel Farke's disposal in the engine room.

Sigur would certainly bring plenty of potential to the Whites' midfield.

Speaking after Canada's 3-0 loss to Morocco in the 2026 World Cup round of 16, Marsch said, "I thought [Sigur] was outstanding, outstanding, maybe our best player on the day."

The midfielder's versatility could come in handy in West Yorkshire amid an apparent need for defensive reinforcement.

However, it wouldn't be surprising to see some like Gurev leave if the Peacocks sign Sigur.
