How Leeds have paid less than expected for Tarik Muharemovic as announcement made

Leeds United spending as much as they did to bring in Tarik Muharemovic raised one or two eyebrows.

The Whites were reported to have paid £34.1million to land the Bosnia-Herzegovina centre-back from Sassuolo.

That makes Muharemovic the second-most expensive signing in Leeds' history, behind Georginio Rutter at £35.5m.

However, it must be remembered that fee was offset slightly by the £20m raised through Pascal Struijk's sale to Brighton and Hove Albion.

And it turns out Leeds did not even pay that much for Muharemovic - or at least not upfront.

That is according to official documents that have now been released by Juventus.

How much did Leeds pay upfront for Tarik Muharemovic?

MOT Leeds News reported extensively on Leeds' attempts to sign Muharemovic.

The 17-cap Bosnia-Herzegovina ace will join up with his new teammates in the United States later this week.

Muharemovic was given three weeks off after his country's World Cup elimination at the hands of Canada at the last-32 stage.

And as per an announcement from Juve, as shared via X on Wednesday, it turns out Leeds only paid £29.7m for the defender.

Juve were due 50 per cent of any fee Sassuolo received for Muharemovic due to an agreement when he swapped clubs in 2025.

The Serie A giants state they were given €17.4m, which would then equate to €34.8m - or £29.7m when converted.

When will Muharemovic make his Leeds debut?

Muharemovic is "touch and go" for Leeds' opening summer friendly.

That comes against Wrexham at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Given Muharemovic will only have one or two training sessions, it makes little sense for Daniel Farke to throw him in just yet.

Leeds follow up their clash against Wrexham with games against Sunderland and Liverpool in New Jersey and Chicago respectively.

You would imagine Muharemovic would get minutes in at least one of those matches as Farke gets the defender - plus fellow new signing Harry Wilson - fully integrated into the side.
