How former Bayern Munich star is helping Leeds loanee Sebastiaan Bornauw rebuild his career
Sebastiaan Bornauw departed Leeds United in the summer after a dismal spell at Elland Road.
The Belgian defender never got going under Daniel Farke, and quickly found himself near the bottom of the pecking order.
Leeds were only able to secure a loan move away for the 27-year-old, with Tarik Muharemovic and Nico Elvedi coming in as defensive cover.
However, while he is no longer in LS11, the future of Bornauw is still very much a topic that will interest Leeds fans.
His loan to Hamburg does have an option to buy, meaning he could depart on a permanent move if he impresses.
And he has been seeking the advice of a Champions League winning defender while out on loan.
Sebastiaan Bornauw seeks council from former Champions League winner
Bornauw has been enjoying a successful loan at Hamburg, and it seems that has been down to some outside help.
As relayed by the print edition of BILD Hamburg on 23 October, Bornauw shared in an interview that he is speaking with former Bundesliga defeneder Daniel Van Buyten.
The Belgian centre-back spent time at Hamburg, before moving to Bayern Munich where he won four Bundesliga titles and a Champions League.
Bournaw stated: "I'm in close contact with him. My father had dinner with him on Tuesday. Back then, Daniel was a real machine on the pitch. Off the pitch, he's a pleasant and good guy.
"There aren't many people who have had such a successful career and yet have remained so down-to-earth and humble.
"I learned from him what kind of attitude you have to have every single day. Impressive. He's a real beast with a fantastic physique that he worked on every single day—a model professional."
Leeds United fans will certainly be hoping the advice he is getting works out, and that Bournaw's time at Elland Road comes to a full conclusion at the end of the season.
If not, the Yorkshire side will likely need to seek another club to take the 27-year-old off their hands next summer.
What Bornauw's Leeds situation looking like?
The Belgian still has a contract at Leeds until 2029, so if he does not secure a move away, the Whites are at risk of having him on the books for years to come.
His loan spell at Hamburg provides an opportunity to rebuild his reputation, and so far, he has been doing so.
The Whites' will be hoping for a summer windfall ahead of next season, with Bornauw's option to buy standing somewhere between £3.4million and £4.2m.
