Hertha Berlin ready to sell Leeds United target Matheus Cunha for £34.3m
Hertha Berlin are ready to sell Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha amid interest from Leeds United, according to BILD.
The German newspaper claims Leeds, Napoli, Monaco and Atalanta are all vying to sign the 22-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window.
BILD reports that Cunha has received the green light to leave Berlin this summer but for Leeds, it would take a club-record fee of £34.3million.
Cunha is currently in Brazil recovering from an ankle injury as he aims to make his nation’s squad for the upcoming Olympics in Tokyo.
He’s also been spotted liking a tweet that says he’s been linked with a move to a number of teams, including Leeds.
New Bobby Firmino?
Cunha is a versatile forward who isn’t really known as a goalscorer.
This season, the Brazilian has netted eight times in 28 appearances in all competitions for Hertha Berlin, supplying eight assists as well.
According to the Bundesliga website, the former RB Leipzig ace is similar to Liverpool star Roberto Firmino who can beat defenders “with his speed, skill or intelligence”.
He also likes to drop deep into the midfield and link up with other players, even when he’s playing in a centre-forward role.
For Marcelo Bielsa, Cunha is bound to tick a lot of boxes.
Patrick Bamford plays in a similar way but is far more clinical in goal but it would be interesting to see what a player like Cunha could do alongside Bamford or even alongside Bamford and Rodrigo.
We’d be an unstoppable force but that price tag is massive and could put Leeds off.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are after this £20million-rated ace who’s been relegated from the Premier League.
