Hertha Berlin ace Matheus Cunha ‘flirts’ with Leeds United
Hertha Berlin playmaker Matheus Cunha could be on the move in the summer and Leeds United are mooted as a potential next club, according to Sport Bild.
The German newspaper reports in their late print edition [12 May] that Cunha, 21, has been flirting with a potential switch to Elland Road.
Cunha has scored eight goals and supplied eight assists in 28 appearances across all competitions this season for Hertha, who he joined from RB Leipzig in January 2020.
‘Enormous potential’
Cunha is one of the best young talents in the Bundesliga and has played a huge role for Hertha Berlin this season.
The ex-Leipzig ace can play up front, on the left-wing and behind the striker in a No 10 role – Marcelo Bielsa would no doubt love a versatile attacker like that in the summer.
According to transfermarkt, the Brazilian playmaker is valued at £27million, which would be a lot of money but for someone who can add an abundance of creativity and incisiveness to the Leeds attack, that seems like a fair fee.
There have been a lot of promising words said about Cunha.
As quoted on the Bundesliga website, Hertha Berlin sporting director Michael Preetz claims the 21-year-old “is a young player with enormous potential, who has already shown his impressive skills.”
Hertha head coach Bruno Labbadia says: “Matheus has something special. He can always produce something with a moment of individual brilliance.”
Cunha has also been likened to fellow Brazilian Roberto Firmino due to his ability to spearhead the attack but also drop into pockets of space and link up with fellow attackers.
He sounds like the Brazilian version of Patrick Bamford, in all honesty.
Do Leeds need another player like Cunha? They definitely don’t not need him.
He sounds as though he’d be a massive asset and we’re excited to see where this speculation goes.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are after this £20million-rated ace who’s been relegated from the Premier League.
