Leeds United are unlikely to strike a deal with Sheffield United for Gustavo Hamer before the transfer window closes, according to GiveMeSport.

The online source reported [30 August] that the Blades are unwilling to do business with Leeds after they failed to meet demands for the transfer this summer despite the player's openness to the move.

It is understood that the Whites do not want to match the price tag set by their Championship rivals, having had a £13million offer rejected earlier this week, which was slammed by Chris Wilder [The Star].

Leeds United set to miss out on Gustavo Hamer transfer

Hamer would have been an incredible addition for Leeds ahead of the transfer window closing, especially following his stellar performance in the Premier League last season.

Despite the Blades being relegated from England's top division, the 27-year-old notched four goals and six assists in 36 appearances, earning the club's Player of the Season award due to this.

He has started the new season brightly, too, scoring twice and assisting another in a win over Preston North End and a 2-2 draw with QPR in the Championship.

With Leeds hoping to secure promotion to the Premier League after missing out last season, Hamer could have boosted their hopes immediately, adding another figure in midfield.

Daniel Farke lost both Archie Gray and Glen Kamara during the summer, and even with Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev forming a decent relationship, there are limited options in the middle of the park.

The new signing of Ao Tanaka has already reduced some of the concerns, but his lack of experience in England could see Leeds wanting to add another face to the squad at Elland Road.

Joe Rothwell was signed on loan from Bournemouth earlier in the window, but the 29-year-old has been given limited minutes so far, with a lack of action for him during the last two seasons.
