Gus Hamer was once a guest at Elland Road as Leeds United links resurface
Gus Hamer is once again a reported Leeds United transfer target this summer, and he's no stranger to Elland Road.
The 28-year-old has been linked with a move to Leeds for some time now, having firmly established himself as a top Championship player.
Having joined Sheffield United in the summer of 2023 from Coventry City, he's gone on to score 22 goals and provide 27 assists in 123 competitive appearances for Blades.
Indeed, Hamer was named as the Championship's Player of the Season for the 2024-25 term, scoring 10 goals and registering eight assists in 44 appearances (including the play-offs).
Last season saw him net seven times and produce a career-high of 12 assists in 39 outings across all competitions.
But, with his Blades contract expiring in the summer of 2027, now may finally be the right time for him to make his Bramall Lane exit.
Gus Hamer was Elland Road guest in 2024
For how talented a player he is, it would be a shame for Hamer to finish his career having only spent one season playing in the Premier League.
That came in 2023-24 for Sheffield United, where he was still able to score four goals and grab six assists in a Blades side that finished rock-bottom of the top flight that year.
And, amid swirling rumours of a transfer to Leeds in the summer of 2024, Hamer certainly whipped Whites fans into a frenzy after he was revealed to have visited Elland Road.
Leeds had signed his Sheffield United teammate Jayden Bogle earlier that summer, and so for a pre-season friendly against Valencia, the new Whites defender invited Hamer to come and watch the match.
Understandably, this had a number of Leeds supporters believing that Hamer was destined to sign on the dotted line, but he was allowed to escape LS11 without having given the Whites his signature.
Since then, the idea of the Dutchman across Yorkshire has continuously been flirted, but the stars appear to be aligned stronger than ever to make that a reality this summer.
Leeds are now bathing in the riches of a successful Premier League campaign, Hamer is entering the final 12 months of his contract and Sheffield United look to be in some financial difficulty.
Hamer has Leeds trademark trait
To play for, and be a success story, at Leeds United, you have to have that something extra about you.
Leeds fans are some of the most vocal and passionate in English football, and they've always loved those players who play with character and have that quirkiness about them.
Hamer has that in abundance, combining an aggressive and fiery temperament with technical brilliance oozing with confidence and flair.
In short, he just looks like a Leeds player, and with him still in the prime of his career, there's surely no better time than now to finally make him one.
