Graham Smyth shares how much Leeds could make after Crysencio Summerville transfer latest

Crysencio Summerville could be on the move again, just 17 months after his Leeds United exit.

Summerville was part of the Leeds side that beat Liverpool in 2021, and was the Whites’ top scorer the next season in the Championship.

Leeds sold the Dutch winger to West Ham in August 2024 in a deal that worked around £28million with add-ons, and they apparently included a sell-on clause.

However, all may not be what it seems after a new update on his future at the London Stadium, and the Elland Road side may not be counting the pennies after all.

How much will Leeds make if Crysencio Summerville leaves West Ham?

Summerville has been linked with Tottenham, who have enquired about his services for a January move.

Ben Jacobs claimed on 21 January that the Hammers rate the former Peacocks star at around the £25million mark.

Graham Smyth believes that the Whites would get nothing back if that was the case, as a profit usually has to be made for them to receive any money.

Taking to X to reply to a supporter, he said: “Well even if there was one, there’d be no £, because sell-ons generally work off profit made, a percentage of that.

“And there’d be no profit here, pretty sure he went for £28m from memory.”

Summerville’s Leeds career explained

The 24-year-old joined the LS11 outfit from Feyenoord in September 2020 and signed a three-year contract with the Yorkshire club.

He made his Premier League debut in September 2021, replacing Raphinha in the 67th minute of a 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

He would end the 2021-22 campaign with nine appearances, failing to contribute with a single goal or assist in those matches, but there was clear signs of his potential.

He fared better the following campaign, and agreed a new contract that was supposed to keep him at Leeds until 2026 in August 2022, but he would not see it out.

Summerville finished the 2022-23 season with four goals and three assists in the top-flight, but he could not save the Peacocks.

The Dutch star made 49 appearances in the 2023-24 campaign, notching 21 goals and 10 assists, but it was not enough to get the Whites back into the elite level.

That was the end of his story with the three-time domestic champions, and he moved on to East London, where he has not had the best of fortunes.
