Graham Smyth issues update on Leeds United transfer aim as work ongoing

Leeds United already have targets that they’re looking to sign in the winter transfer window.

Graham Smyth has revealed that the Whites have some slow-burning options, and fans in LS11 will certainly be anticipating some business before the end of January.

Daniel Farke is expected to sign a few players on loan at Elland Road, but it remains to be seen which areas of the pitch the German manager will look to strengthen.

49ers Enterprises have to deal with Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules, with exits not ruled out at the West Yorkshire outfit in the coming weeks.

Leeds United want one to two signings in January

Smyth claims that Leeds are aiming to add one to two players to their squad.

The Whites are in a good run of form and sit eight points ahead of 18th-place West Ham United in the Premier League table.

While some might feel the West Yorkshire outfit have a decent enough squad to avoid relegation, they arguably can’t take any chances and should bolster the first-team at Elland Road.

Speaking on the Inside Elland Road Podcast on 9 January, Smyth said, “The way it’s been described to me is that work is ongoing. There are some slow-burning options that they’re looking at.”

The YEP journalist added, “The thinking at Leeds is still… one to two additions, I think, is what they’re aiming for.”

Farke is apparently prioritising attacking additions at Elland Road, but it remains to be seen whether his thinking will change after Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s recent heroics.

49ers Enterprises to take Elland Road risk that will leave fans fuming

With Leeds apparently maxing out their PSR, there’s a possibility that the 49ers won’t have the room to make any more signings in January.

Seeing the lack of urgency at Leeds in terms of recruitment, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the American owners leave the current squad as it is.

Leeds’ five most expensive signings in the summer

Now that Farke has opened up a big gap with the relegation zone, the Whites’ hierarchy may feel that there’s no need to invest in further recruitments until next summer.

The West Yorkshire outfit will be taking a significant risk if they don’t sign at least a few quality players, with West Ham already completing a few deals in the first few days of January.
