Georginio Rutter’s Leeds United return more likely as Brighton reach transfer agreement
Georginio Rutter may be destined to return to Leeds United after the latest at Brighton.
The 24-year-old left the Whites in 2024 to join the AMEX Stadium side, but a comeback could be on the cards.
A report from Florian Plettenberg on 3 June claims that the Seagulls have reached a verbal agreement with Zadok Yohanna from Swedish side AIK.
It states that Fabian Hurzeler’s side are now in negotiations with the club, with RB Leipzig out of the race.
That could leave the door open for an Elland Road return for Rutter, just two years after he departed.
How Georginio Rutter return could be on cards for Leeds
Leeds supporters desperately want Rutter to return, as there is a lot of love left between both parties.
It may now be possible as Yohanna plays on the right-flank, which is primarily where the Frenchman operates.
If they want the new man to come into the side straight away, they may be more open to allow Rutter to leave.
That could make a comeback for the former Hoffenheim man more likely, and potentially leave Daniel Farke’s side ready to strike a deal.
Why Rutter return makes perfect sense
Rutter is a known quantity for Farke, as he notched eight goals and 18 assists in 66 matches for the Whites.
They are crying out for attacking quality, and he notched three goals and four assists last season in the Premier League.
His goal tally was only fewer than five Leeds players, and his assists would rank him second, behind only Brenden Aaronson in the LS11 side’s charts.
He is also versatile, he could play in a two with Dominic Calvert-Lewin or play on the flanks instead, which makes his signature even more appealing.
His return would be a huge boost for the supporters, given the relationship that they already have with the player, so it makes sense for everybody.
It likely all depends on whether Brighton thinks Yohanna is ready to start immediately or needs time to adapt to the top-flight.
If they don’t, the dreams of Rutter swanning back to the Yorkshire outfit may be up in tatters, but signing a new right winger increases the chances.
