Georginio Rutter shares Leeds United exit hint in new message
Georginio Rutter has hinted that he will stay at Leeds United this summer, posting “see you soon” on social media.
Leeds are expected to be forced to sell a number of first-team stars after Daniel Farke’s side failed to win promotion back to the Premier League.
However, Rutter’s social media post suggests he will not be one of the players to move on.
He posted on Instagram (1 June): “Hello Leeds fans. A few days have passed but still as much disappointment, the objective was not achieved despite a superb season where each of us gave our maximum. Thank you for your support throughout the year [and] see you soon.”
Will Georginio Rutter really stay at Leeds United?
For all the talk there has been of a fire sale at Elland Road this summer, Rutter’s name has rarely been mentioned among the potential outgoings.
At first glance, that seems a curious omission, given he is still a young player at the age of just 22 and racked up 15 Championship assists in 2023/24 – the second-most in the division.
However, it is likely the fact that Leeds signed Rutter for a club-record £36million in January 2023 that dramatically reduces his value as a saleable asset.
Players acquired for low fees or promoted from the academy and then sold on for big money would count as sizeable profit in the process of balancing the club’s books, but Rutter would need to be sold for significantly more than the £36m he was signed for to be worth selling – which seems unlikely, despite the player’s quality.

Additionally, the Whites’ new deal with Red Bull could ease the financial strain the club finds itself under, reducing the need to sell.
As a result, it is clearly in Leeds’ best interests to keep their creative maestro around as they look to return to the Premier League at the second time of asking in 2024/25.
