Georginio Rutter misses Hoffenheim match with quickfire Leeds United transfer now on the cards

Leeds United’s January target Georginio Rutter was absent from TSG Hoffenheim’s friendly with Wolfsburg on Friday, with a transfer to Elland Road in the offing, according to German outlet Kicker.

According to The Guardian journalist Fabrizio Romano [8 January], the Whites are in advanced talks with Hoffenheim, with a fee of around €30m (£26.4m) being discussed.

Personal terms are also believed to be already agreed upon with Rutter and his representatives, and talks between the two parties are set to continue in the next few days to make him the club’s second signing this month.

The forward was amicably left out of Hoffenheim’s friendly fixture with Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg on Friday to avoid the risk of injury which could hamper any move, according to Kicker [8 January].

The report also goes on to state that the deal is “in the offing” and could go “very quickly” if Leeds submit a concrete offer.

The addition of Rutter to the Leeds United ranks this month is very impressive, and further highlights the huge belief invested in Jesse Marsch’s Leeds project.

The American coach is being backed considerably, and if the Rutter deal goes ahead, it will be the ninth signing under the former RB Salzburg coach.

Nonetheless, the addition of Rutter is a huge statement of intent and one which fits the profile and philosophy that is currently being built at Elland Road.

A young hungry, vibrant, exuberant and dynamic footballer who will certainly boost the aura and excitement around the whole club, especially within the fanbase.

Rutter has registered 19 goal involvements since his move to the Bundesliga in 2021, and joining Leeds will hopefully boost his development and maturity at the top level.

However, spending in the region of £26million on the forward means the pressure is on Marsch to deliver in Yorkshire. If results don’t improve in the coming weeks and months, his job at the helm may, unfortunately, become untenable.
