Leeds United want to sign Hungary left-back Milos Kerkez, bid over £15m needed to secure January transfer

Leeds United are in hot pursuit of AZ Alkmaar left-back Milos Kerkez but a January deal could be costly, according to talkSPORT.

The broadcaster reported via their Twitter account on Thursday (5 January) that Bournemouth and Leicester are also in the hunt to sign the 19-year-old Hungary international, who’s valued at over £15million by AZ.

Leeds have already signed Maximilian Wober, an Austrian defender who can play at left-back as well.

Another one?

Why are Leeds looking to sign another left-back?

And you can add to that – why are they looking at another defender?

With Wober, 26, joining from Red Bull Salzburg this week, Leeds have a right-back selection of Luke Ayling, Rasmus Kristensen and Cody Drameh.

At centre-back, they have Liam Cooper, Diego Llorente, Robin Koch, Pascal Struijk, Leo Hjelde and Wober to choose from.

And at left-back, there’s Wober, Struijk, Hjelde and Junior Firpo who can play in that role while Stuart Dallas can also play in both full-back positions.

Kerkez, who joined AZ from AC Milan in January 2022, is a young player at 19.

However, his experience and price tag would suggest that he’s not someone who’d be an addition for the Under-21s as he’s a full international for Hungary and has played 14 times in the Eredivisie for AZ this season, scoring twice in the process.

Leeds seem to be stockpiling ahead of what could be a very big clear out either at the end of this month or in the summer because that’s not a normal number of defensive players to have in the squad.

In other Leeds United news, Victor Orta could make moves to sign this MLS defender in either the summer or January and it won’t break the bank.
