Georginio Rutter decides on Leeds United exit after Brighton bid – Sky Sports pundit

Leeds United attacker Georginio Rutter has reached an agreement to secure a permanent transfer to Brighton, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sports Germany journalist reported on 15 August that a verbal agreement has been reached with the Premier League club.

It’s understood that the 22-year-old can undergo his medical in the next 72 hours and leave Elland Road for good.

Plettenberg wrote on X: “Understand that Georginio #Rutter has now agreed to join Brighton with immediate effect

“22 y/o versatile striker from Leeds, strongly wanted by Brighton bosses and Fabian Hürzeler. Verbal agreement is done now.

“Details to be clarified today. Medical could follow in the next 72 hours. Brighton will activate £40m release clause as per David Ornstein and confirmed. Now the player’s decision has been made.”

Leeds United were always going to find it hard to keep Georginio Rutter

The Whites knew that once a Premier League side came knocking, things were likely to be dictated by them and the player.

Rutter would’ve stayed at Elland Road had Leeds secured promotion but failure to do that has seen him make up his mind to leave.

The Frenchman himself may not be convinced by what’s going on behind the scenes as Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville have not been replaced either.

Leeds could only try and convince the attacker to not leave but it was going to be hard and eventually, they did not succeed.

Hopefully, his sale can generate funds which Leeds can use to strengthen multiple areas and build a strong squad that can get promoted.

Time is not on their side, however, as the window is shutting in two weeks and there’s plenty that needs to be done.
