Graeme Bailey has been stunned by the work done by Georginio Rutter's agents following his transfer from Leeds United to Brighton.

The 22-year-old has joined the Seagulls for £40million, as per Sky Sports, after the Premier League club triggered a release clause in his contract earlier this month.

Rutter arrived at Elland Road for a club-record fee of £36million in January 2023 [BBC Sport], and was a key player for Daniel Farke as Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion last season.

Taking to X on Tuesday (20 August), Bailey wrote: "Georginio Rutter - aged just 22, has now cost Premier League clubs more than £75million in transfer fees. Stunning work from his agents."

Leeds United lose Georginio Rutter to Brighton

Transfer fees are only ever rising in the world of football, but Leeds will feel that the £36million they spent in January 2023 was worth every penny.

Obviously, helping to claim promotion back to the Premier League would have been the icing on the cake, but the sport does not always come with a fairytale ending, and certainly not in this situation.

The attacker notched five goals and 16 assists for the Whites last term, becoming one of Farke's most important players after a tough first six months in England, but has now joined Crysencio Summerville out of the exit door.

Fans will hope that after multiple key stars have found new clubs this summer, the funds will be reinvested into the squad to help boost Leeds' chances of securing promotion this season.

With just 10 days of the transfer window remaining, that remains to be seen, but Farke has expressed his desire to bring in four new signings before 30 August [The Athletic].

Time is ticking for the Whites to bring new players through the doors at Elland Road, but there is desperation emerging for the club to replace their departing talents.
