Gabriel Gudmundsson's new scare gives Leeds United much-needed reality check
Leeds United's Gabriel Gudmundsson was taken off injured during Sweden's 5-1 win against Tunisia on Monday, in another scare for the defender.
Whites fans will be delighted to see several of their players in North America for this year's World Cup, and they won't be more excited for anyone than Gudmundsson.
The left-wing back had a stellar debut season at Elland Road, taking to life in the Premier League like a duck to water, earning rave reviews from fans and media.
He played an instrumental role in helping secure the fate of Daniel Farke's side before the final day of the season, and for that, his efforts won't be forgotten quickly.
However, he had some injury issues towards the back end of the season, which could have changed the whole picture.
Now, despite a dominating win in his nation's opening clash at the World Cup, another fitness worry gives Farke and Co. food for thought.
Leeds need to sign cover for Gabriel Gudmundsson
Leeds struggled when Gudmundsson picked up suspension and injury in parts of last season.
He also suffered a bang to the knee while he was away with Sweden during the March international break, as watching him play for his country is now being associated with negativity.
James Justin filled in at left-wing back when he needed to, but he was also deployed as a centre-back when other injuries were flying around.
With that being said, the reality is that Leeds need to sign cover for Gudmundsson.
While it may seem like the obvious move to make, no transfer speculation has suggested that the Whites are actually looking to add in this area, which they are so thin in.
It's a real concern, especially given his recent fitness worries.
Graham Potter's update on Gudmundsson isn't convincing enough
After Sweden's game against Tunisia concluded at the Monterrey Stadium in Mexico, Graham Potter provided an instant update on Gudmundsson.
The former West Ham head coach said he thought it was cramp, but there were no 100 per cent guarantees.
Gudmundsson had gone down after the hour mark in real pain and was eventually taken off after 64 minutes of play.
Sweden's next game is against the Netherlands on Saturday, as Leeds fans will be keen to learn if Gudmundsson will be included in the starting eleven or not.
For his own sake and the benefit of the Whites, let's hope it's nothing serious, and that he can return to Thorp Arch with a successful World Cup campaign under his belt.
