Leeds United: Graham Potter shares instant injury update on Gabriel Gudmundsson
Leeds United star Gabriel Gudmundsson left Sweden's World Cup win over Tunisia through injury.
The left wing-back started Sweden's opening World Cup game in the early hours of Monday morning UK time.
Gudmundsson had recently missed five weeks after suffering a hamstring injury during Leeds' FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea.
He'd also been battling an illness over the past few days, leaving his inclusion for Sweden's tournament opener in some doubt.
But the Whites star was able to be fit in time for Graham Potter to feel comfortable starting him against Tunisia.
However, a thumping 5-1 win was overshadowed slightly by Gudmundsson having to leave the match in the second half after being unable to continue through injury.
What has Graham Potter said on Gabriel Gudmundsson injury?
Just after the hour mark in the game and with Sweden 3-1 up at the time, Gudmundsson went down and was in clear discomfort.
He made the universal gesture towards his bench that he needed to come off, and that's exactly what happened with 64 minutes on the clock.
Sweden wouldn't rue his injury on the night, as they went on to score a further two goals to cap off what was a very impressive opening win over the Tunisians.
But the 27-year-old is an important player for them, and would certainly feel his absence if he's forced to miss further matches in the tournament.
Thankfully, though, that doesn't appear to be the case, with Sweden boss Potter providing a comforting update on his condition after full-time.
Speaking to SVT via SvenskaFans.com, Potter said of Gudmundsson's injury status: "I just think it was a cramp."
How Potter handles his minutes in the tournament going forward will be interesting though, with Daniel Farke undoubtedly watching on closely.
How did Gudmundsson perform vs Tunisia?
Prior to being replaced, Gudmundsson was enjoying a good performance too, despite not being able to provide a goal involvement in Sweden's first three strikes.
As per FotMob, he completed 83 per cent of his passes, made five clearances, four recoveries, two interceptions and two tackles respectively.
He also won four his six ground duels and all three of his aerial duels, as well as winning three fouls, playing one pass into the final third and being dispossessed zero times.
Sweden's next game is against the Netherlands on Saturday, so Gudmundsson does have a week to shake off this injury and hopefully be ready in time for that big game in Group F.
