‘Finally’, ‘Excellent move’ – These Leeds fans react as new signing arrives at Elland Road
Leeds United announced their first – and hopefully not their last – deal of the January transfer window on Tuesday evening.
Young goalkeeper Elia Caprile has joined on a permanent deal from Chievo Verona until 2023.
It was a huge moment for the 18-year-old so we hope that Victor Orta warned him that he would be in store for a mixed reaction on Twitter.
It’s not that Leeds fans aren’t happy to see him as much as they desperately want Leeds to announce a new striker.
Not all fans took it out on Caprile and some fans were just happy to “finally” see the window officially start for Leeds.
There were also plenty of fans who welcomed the youngster to the club, with one saying, “Welcome to Leeds. Promising goalkeeper. Massive club. Excellent move.”
That’s how we should be treating new signings who could turn out to be a big part of the future of the club.
However, as one fan foretold, “Pity your unveiling will be spoilt by the “sIGn A StrIKeR brigade!!”
And so it proved… A load of reactions to his signing were negative ones aimed at Leeds and their need for a new striker.
We get it. A new striker is absolutely crucial and after Leeds saying they wanted to get one in early in the window, we’ve now got just over a week to go.
However, pick your moments. The fans who piled onto the Caprile tweet should try and put themselves in his shoes.
Hopefully, he’s got a good sense of humour and can see the tweets in context. But we just think it’s a shame that these fans couldn’t at least say “Welcome!” before launching into the negative. We’re all Leeds aren’t we?
