Fabrizio Romano drops transfer update on Leeds United loanee Joe Rodon

Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on the Tottenham future of Leeds United loanee Joe Rodon.

The transfer posted on his personal X account [21 May] amid uncertainty over where Rodon will be playing his club football next season.

The Wales international has spent the 2023-24 campaign on loan at Elland Road, playing a key part in the club’s run to the play-off final.

Rodon’s future beyond this summer has been unclear, but Romano claims that Tottenham are ready to sell him.

Djed Spence and Japhet Tanganga, who are also out on loan, are also set to leave the Premier League club this summer.

Will Joe Rodon be staying at Leeds United?

The key to that answer could lie in whether the Whites are promoted to the Premier League or not later this week.

If United fail to go up, it is pretty certain that Rodon will not remain at Elland Road. The player no doubt wants Premier League football, while the funds will simply not be there from Leeds’ perspective.

Should Daniel Farke’s men get the job done against Southampton at Wembley, however, then it is a different matter entirely.

Rodon will not be cheap, but it is still a deal Leeds need to look to complete. It cannot be understated how important a strong defence is – as we saw last season.

Having the Welshman in the heart of defence, with fellow rock and international colleague Ethan Ampadu likely just ahead of him, ensures Leeds will be well stocked in that area.

Rodon will likely have other offers, but he has hopefully been won over by the supporters this season and will therefore favour a permanent stay in Yorkshire.

For now, let’s hope United overcome Southampton and then we can focus more on incoming and outgoing activity.
