Enzo Maresca has opened up on James Trafford's Manchester City future amid links to Leeds United.

Leeds have been in desperate need of reinforcement between the sticks during the summer transfer window.

Karl Darlow's departure for rivals Manchester United, coupled with Illan Meslier leaving on a free transfer left Leeds' options thin on the ground.

Lucas Perri only joined from Lyon last summer, but has been hugely underwhelming and lost his place in the team to Darlow last term.

But Leeds have now been strongly linked with bringing Trafford to Elland Road, in what would be a big coup.

And Trafford's new Man City boss Maresca has responded to questions about the 23-year-old's Etihad Stadium future.

It has been reported that Leeds could end up agreeing a deal worth £50million, though it is unclear how much of that would be up front.

The likes of Newcastle United and Aston Villa have also previously been linked, so landing Trafford would be big sign of intent.

City boss Maresca spoke about Trafford's future, in quotes reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

He was quite non-commital, but his "we'll see" did seem to hint that an exit is entirely possible.

Maresca said: "I know James because he was my keeper when I was with the Under-23s, so I know James very good.

"But again, when the transfer window is open, now or in January, anything can happen.

“So we’ll see, but at the moment he’s one of our keepers.”

What's the latest with Lucas Perri's Leeds United situation?

One player watching the Trafford situation with a keen eye will be Perri.

His tenure at Leeds has been pretty poor, and the Whites would certainly have no hesitation getting him off the wage bill.

The issue, of course, has been the fact they had to source a replacement before allowing him to leave.

Indeed, even if Trafford is signed, allowing Perri to go means they would probably need some experienced back up.

But, if Trafford is signed, there is a growing belief that Torino - who have been most heavily linked - will be given the green light to sign the Brazilian.

It would feel like a good solution for all parties, and given he has no realistic prospect of game time at Elland Road, then it makes sense to let him go.
