Leeds United winger Jack Harrison could be on his way back to Everton on a permanent deal after the Whites' failure to achieve promotion, according to the Daily Mail.

After Leeds' 1-0 loss to Southampton in the Championship play-off final at Wembley on 26 May, Everton are confident they will be able to bring Harrison back to Goodison Park next season.

Harrison activated a relegation loan clause in his contract last summer to leave Elland Road for Merseyside temporarily, but now the Peacocks are consigned to another season in the second tier, the Toffees are hoping to extend his stay on Merseyside.

It's no surprise to see that Sean Dyche wants the 27-year-old back as a permanent fixture of his squad after a solid year out on loan.

Does Jack Harrison have a future at Leeds United?

Had Leeds achieved promotion against Southampton, Everton likely would've been unable to sign Harrison permanently, owing to their precarious finances and the Premier League money which would have instantly been injected at Elland Road.

However, the Whites' 1-0 loss means that promotion will not come to pass for another year at least, meaning that just like last summer, the club hold less power over their want-away players - of which Harrison will surely be one.

The only member of Marcelo Bielsa's promoted 2020 side to force a loan move last summer, Harrison could well have burned his bridges in LS11, and after a solid season at Goodison Park, scoring four goals in 35 appearances, looks likely to push for a return.

Another season in the second tier means Leeds will have to sell players to fulfil financial fair play rules and build a squad capable of getting over the line in 2025, and if a nominal fee comes in for Harrison, his time at Elland Road will surely be up.
