Leeds United will have to pay a big fee in order to land Peterborough hotshot Ricky-Jade Jones, Darragh MacAnthony has revealed.

Peterborough owner MacAnthony has taken to his personal Twitter account to confirm that Leeds have approached the Posh over the 17-year-old forward, who has broken into the first-team at London Road this season.

Jones has scored four goals in 16 appearances across all competitions for Peterborough and Leeds clearly see him as someone who they would be keen to add to their Under-23s.

MacAnthony has suggested that Leeds’ director of football has been in touch with Barry Fry about a deal but talks did not last long due to Peterborough’s demands for the young starlet.

When asked if Leeds approached Peterborough with an enquiry about Jones in January, MacAnthony said: “Yes. I think they scoop a lot of Under-21 players up but it was a short chat as we don’t sell teenage talent unless its big money. Think Baz had a call from somebody who recruits for the Under-21s. All good.”

Peterborough are a club that recruits well and more often than not, there is one of their players linked with a big move away from London Road.

At the moment it is Jones who is smashing it for the Posh and he even managed to score against Premier League side Burnley in the FA Cup in January.

We hope Leeds can make a breakthrough in trying to sign Jones but if Peterborough are demanding too high a fee – and who can blame them – then Leeds will have to look elsewhere.

In other Leeds United news, this player is likely to exit Spurs after being linked with Leeds.
