Dejan Ljubicic ‘last-minute’ transfer on the cards after Leeds United multi-million bid

Koln could yet lose Leeds United-linked Dejan Ljubicic before the transfer window closes despite his brace on Sunday, according to BILD.

The German newspaper reported on Sunday (25 August) that after he scored twice in the 5-0 win over Braunschweig, no one at Koln wanted to confirm there’d be no “last-minute transfer” for the 26-year-old Austria midfielder.

It is understood that it’s “certain” Ljubicic will leave the 2.Bundesliga club as soon as there is a good offer wit his existing deal at Koln expiring next year.

BILD says Leeds are the sole bidders for the former Rapid Vienna star, offering £3.3million before dropping out of the race to sign him before the weekend’s win over Braunschweig.

Leeds United could still be in running to sign Ljubicic

Although BILD claim Leeds have dropped their bid to sign Ljubicic, speculation remains elsewhere about a potential move for the Austrian midfielder, who was Koln’s “best player” against Braunschweig.

Rheinische Post reported on Monday that the Whites are set to submit a “lucrative” bid for him, while the Mail on Sunday claims that the Yorkshire club wants him through the door after they complete a loan deal for Tottenham’s Manor Solomon.

BILD seem adamant that Leeds won’t be striking a deal but you can never rule anything out at this stage of the transfer window, especially with Daniel Farke and Gretar Steinsson stepping up their efforts to spend some of the £100million they’ve made on player sales this summer.

Ljubicic isn’t someone who would set Elland Road alight.

He’s started the season well in Germany’s second tier but he’s a holding midfielder who can seemingly also play out wide.

While the Yorkshire club could do with some extra strength in depth in the middle, their priority has to be up top with a new striker and attacking midfielder.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are favourites to sign this former Premier League attacker.
