DC United are continuing to progress in talks to sign Leeds United fan favourite Mateusz Kilch with former Premier League midfielder Ravel Morrison pursuing a move away from the US Captial, according to Steven Goff.

The Washington Post journalist reported via his Twitter account on 3 January that the Major League Soccer side remain locked in talks to sign the Polish international, with former West Ham midfielder Morrison not seeming likely to return to the American outfit.

Klich has long been a target for DC United and is expected to leave Elland Road this month after a lack of game time in the Premier League, which resulted in his snub for the Polish World Cup squad.

With former Manchester United and West Ham midfielder Morrison looking for a move away from the capital, it could well mean that the MLS push ahead to secure the 32-year-old’s signature in the coming weeks.

Goff wrote on his Twitter account (3 January): “Happy New Year. A few D.C. United updates, per sources: Talks with Mateusz Klich and Leeds “continue to progress.” Ravel Morrison doesn’t seem likely to return and is pursuing a move. Club is not in talks with any DCU players whose contract option was declined.”

Leeds Must Move On

Considering the legendary status Klich has garnered at Elland Road and the evolution currently taking place in Jesse Marsch’s squad, the Yorkshire club must swiftly move on the Polish international.

It’s clear the 32-year-old midfield isn’t a part of the manager’s plans with new signings Tyler Adams and Marc Roca successfully forming the base of Marsch’s newly-built midfield which means there is no use for Klich’s services any longer.

The Pole has indeed been a remarkable servant and a deserved fan’s favourite throughout the club’s rise back into the English top-flight during the Marcelo Bielsa era but his time performing at the top level has sadly come to an end.

With his minutes on the pitch limited, there’s simply no use keeping hold of a player who desperately wants to search for playing time elsewhere. A swift resolution will need to be made in order for both parties to move on amicably.

In other Leeds news, experienced PL defender could be next on the club’s transfer shopping list.
