Leeds United will be forced back to the drawing board after the latest update on the future of FC Nordsjælland star Daniel Svensson.

The 22-year-old was linked with a £5 million move to Elland Road on 23 January [Philipp Hinze] but Daniel Farke looks to have missed out on what would have been a long-term left-back solution.

The latest update should serve as a major blow for the Championship leaders as Svensson is one of the most promising talents in world football.

Leeds United need a solution at left-back

The Whites look set to lose starting left-back Junior Firpo in the summer as there has been no progress on his expiring contract but he is expected to remain at the club this month.

Sam Byram has proved a solid deputy when the Dominican international has been absent but at 28 years old, he is not a long-term option for Farke.

If the Elland Road outfit are promoted to the Premier League, they will need a better quality player on the left-hand side of defence with neither of their current options impressing in the top flight previously.

The Swedish international would have been the perfect solution to Farke's most pressing issue but it looks like Leeds' chance to secure a major coup has been and gone.

The search for the future in the position will move on but the Whites could rue missing out on Svensson's signature if he becomes a star in Germany.
