Daniel Farke may be breathing a little easier over the future of Leeds United ace Gabriel Gudmundsson.

The Sweden full-back moved to Elland Road from Lille in a deal worth a little over £10million last July.

Gudmundsson impressed during his debut campaign in West Yorkshire, and made 32 Premier League appearances last term.

However, there were fears that Gudmundsson's stint at Leeds could end up being a brief one as his performances attracted attention from elsewhere.

Indeed, Leeds' rivals Chelsea were said to be interested in taking Gudmundsson to Stamford Bridge as new head coach Xabi Alonso sought a replacement for Marc Cucurella.

However, it looks as though a new development reported on Wednesday may have kiboshed that potential deal.

Chelsea given go-ahead to sign La Liga left-back

It would be painful to see Gudmundsson depart Elland Road just 12 months into his four-year contract.

Moreover, to see him move to a fellow Premier League side - let alone a big rival like Chelsea - would have stung even more.

Those fears might have just eased, though, with Fabrizio Romano delivering an update that will have Farke rubbing his hands with glee.

According to the prominent Italian journalist, Chelsea have been given the "green light" from Rayo Vallecano left-back Pep Chavarria to complete a transfer.

The 28-year-old, Romano says, has agreed personal terms with the Blues, and wants to play for Alonso.

Chelsea are now undertaking club-to-club talks with Rayo, and it is hoped a deal can be reached, Romano added.

What is Gabriel Gudmundsson's contract situation at Leeds?

Leeds were always going to be in a strong position when it came to any potential negotiations over Gudmundsson.

The 27-year-old, whose adventure at the World Cup is over after Sweden were outclassed 3-0 by France in the round of the 32, signed a four-year contract when he joined last season.

With three years still to run on that contract, there would be very little need for Leeds to budge in any potential negotiations.

If Chelsea do wind up signing Chavarria, then you have to hope that it means they will not spend big on Gudmundsson as well.
