Daniel Farke not concerned with Isaac Schmidt start as Leeds United transfer progresses
Leeds United are not concerned with Isaac Schmidt starting for St Gallen in the Europa Conference League on Thursday [29 August], according to Graham Smyth.
The 24-year-old started the match against Trabzonspor, opening the scoring, leaving Leeds with a little over 24 hours to secure his services before the 30 August deadline.
Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Smyth reported on his X account [29 August] that the Whites are still confident of sealing a deal for the Swiss full-back.
He said: “Isaac Schmidt playing tonight. Shades of the Raphinha deal and Connor Roberts back in January. Leeds United have no concerns about their deal.”
Leeds United are confident of signing Isaac Schmidt
Daniel Farke has been public regarding his intentions to strengthen his Leeds side before the transfer deadline and has earmarked a full-back among his desired positions.
Jayden Bogle arrived earlier this summer and has started all three Championship fixtures so far at right-back, but the Whites are now targeting more depth at left-back to challenge Junior Firpo.
After makeshift full-back Stuart Dallas announced his retirement and Luke Ayling left for Middlesbrough, the Whites have limited options at full-back should Bogle or Firpo pick up injuries throughout the season, especially with the latter’s injury record.
Schmidt can play on either side of the defence and would bring European experience to a side desperate to return to the Premier League next season.
An agreement is expected to be reached in the region of £2.5m with add-ons [Patrick Berger] and is in line with the Leeds approach of acquiring cut-price but quality replacement for their outgoing stars.
Largie Ramazani arrived from UD Almeria for approximately £10m [The Athletic] and Manor Solomon joined from Tottenham on a season-long loan [Fabrizio Romano] to replace Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter.
This latest piece of business will certainly leave Leeds in a strong position defensively, assuming no injuries are sustained against Trabzonspor.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are working to sign Roland Sallai.
