Leeds United are expected to strike a full agreement with FC St Gallen for their left-back Isaac Schmidt, according to Patrick Berger.

The Sky Sports journalist reported on 29 August that the Whites are on the verge of securing the services of the 24-year-old left-back.

He could fly into Leeds on 30 August to finalise his transfer after Thursday's Europa Conference League match in Trabzon.

Via X, Berger wrote: "Leeds United is on the verge to sign Isaac Schmidt (24/🇨🇭) from FC St. Gallen. Advanced negotiations between both clubs. #LUFC ready to pay a transfer fee of €3m+ add-ons. Full agreement expected soon.

"If everything works out the full-back will fly to England tomorrow - after todays Europa Conference League match in Trabzon.

"Werder Bremen was interested in Schmidt too. Leeds leading the race."

Leeds United must finalise the deal quickly for Isaac Schmidt

Schmidt's potential signing by Leeds represents a strategic move to bolster their defensive options, particularly at left-back where depth has been an issue.

At 24, Schmidt brings youth and the promise of development under Leeds' management, which could be crucial for long-term squad planning.

His versatility to operate on both flanks of defence adds tactical flexibility, allowing the Whites to adapt formations or cover for injuries without compromising quality.

Moreover, his experience in European competitions adds a layer of continental exposure that could be beneficial as Leeds aim for promotion and potentially future European campaigns.

Financially, acquiring the Swiss defender at a relatively low transfer fee, especially for a player of his age and potential, signifies a smart investment, aiming to enhance the squad's competitiveness in the Championship with an eye on future growth.

It's important that the Whites waste no more time and quickly finalise this deal.
