Dan James set to leave Manchester United after Cristiano Ronaldo agreement, Leeds United set to bid

Manchester United winger Dan James could still leave for Leeds United before the conclusion of transfer deadline day on Tuesday, according to The Sun.

Alan Nixon, writing for the British newspaper, claims the 2020/21 Premier League runners-up are set to sanction his departure after agreeing the shock return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford on Friday.

Leeds are now set to make their pitch for the 23-year-old Wales attacker after being told to make an offer for him.

Nixon’s report claims the ex-Swansea City speedster could be available on a loan or even a permanent deal, should the right approach be made.

Leeds hold a long-term interest in James after nearly signing the Euro 2020 ace from Swansea in 2019.

Summerville season?

The mooted, long-awaited arrival of James to Elland Road usually causes an air of derision among Leeds fans whenever the topic rears its head.

The general feeling tends to be that the ship should have sailed long ago after a move from Swansea broke down in January 2019.

James ended up staying put in Wales for six months before sealing a big move to Manchester United in the summer, and while he initially shone at Old Trafford, his levels soon dropped and he has been an inconsistent figure ever since for Leeds’ bitter rivals.

The Whites have been linked with a host of wingers this summer, despite the permanent capture of Jack Harrison from Manchester City.

Noa Lang and Matheus Cunha have been two names consistently linked with a switch to West Yorkshire but nothing has yet materialised.

While those two names have caused excitement amongst the Whites masses, James has failed to inspire supporters.

With Crysencio Summerville making huge strides in the Under-23 side, there are likely to be those wondering whether Marcelo Bielsa already has a better option than James in his current ranks.
