Michael Dawson baffled by Marcelo Bielsa in first half of Leeds United v Everton
Ex-England defender Michael Dawson has expressed his surprise at Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United team selection against Everton.
Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday [21/08/21] during the first half of Saturday’s encounter at Elland Road, Dawson said: “What Bielsa does baffles me sometimes, it’s incredible.
“They’re playing a 3-3-3-1, work that out, I’ve never seen it before.
“I wondered what it would be before the game, the players go everywhere.
“Luke Ayling is playing on the right of the three and he ends up at left-back. Richarlison turns him and gets a shot off from the edge of the box.
“Just the way Leeds play, they cover everyone. [Stuart] Dallas goes from right back to the centre of midfield they play all over. In possession, they’ve been brilliant.

“It’s brilliant, I love to watch it, Leeds have definitely started the better.”
The El Loco way
Dawson obviously hasn’t seen many Leeds games over the past few years as this is pretty common stuff under Bielsa.
The Argentine is famed for his innovative methods and the flexibility of his formations.
That allows the Whites to shift between a three-man defence and a four-man rearguard.
With the likes of Dallas and Ayling in the team, Bielsa can trust his players to switch positions with ease and still maintain a high standard.
Leeds went a goal down in the first half on Saturday but Mateusz Klich pulled the Whites level just before half-time.
We thought everyone had become accustomed to the craziness of Bielsa, but it seems not everyone has caught up yet.
In other Leeds United news, an English club have tabled a bid to sign this Whites U23s star, permanent exit could be sanctioned.
