Crystal Palace join Leeds United in race to sign Lewis O’Brien

Alan Nixon has confirmed that Crystal Palace have joined Leeds United in the race to sign Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien.

Various news outlets reported on Thursday afternoon [12/08/21] that the Eagles were making a late bid to beat Leeds to the post for the 22-year-old.

Nixon [The Sun], confirmed their interest on his personal Twitter profile. He said: “He’s a possible.”

Nixon was asked whether Leeds were still in the race to sign the Englishman.

He replied: “In Leeds case it looks more like a walk than a race…”

Gallagher 2.0?

This isn’t the first time this summer that Palace have rivalled us for an English midfielder – the south London club signed 21-year-old Conor Gallagher on a season-long from Chelsea last month after the Whites believed he was destined for Elland Road.

According to the Guardian, he turned Marcelo Bielsa’s men down in favour a temporary move to Selhurst Park.

Our interest in O’Brien has been evident for some weeks now, with Nixon one journalist who has consistently reported on our pursuit of the Terriers star.

However, it seems the West Yorkshire clubs have been haggling over his valuation.

Now, Patrick Vieira and Palace look set to try and steal him from under our noses.

Whites supporters may not be too disappointed to miss out on O’Brien, a player who is yet to play in the top-flight, but it would be a blow if we were beaten by Palace yet again in the transfer market.

Marcelo Bielsa recently signed a new contract with the Whites, and we staunchly back his judgement on players.

Therefore, we should be making moves to ensure we are not pipped to the post again.
