Leeds United are already facing questions after selling Joe Gelhardt to Hull City.

The 24-year-old never quite found his feet at Elland Road after moving from Wigan Athletic in 2020.

That is what prompted three separate loan spells away from LS11 to Sunderland and then two with the Tigers.

He managed to forge a path for himself at the MKM Stadium as he helped fire them to the Premier League.

It always felt as if a permanent move back was going to be on the cards and it has now happened, despite taking longer than expected.

There have since been contrasting reports about how much Leeds have earned from selling Gelhardt which have now been put to bed.

How much did Leeds United actually sell Joe Gelhardt for?

The Englishman is coming off the back of an 18 goal involvement season in the Championship.

His stock is arguably as high as its been since he joined the Whites six years ago.

That hasn't been reflected in his transfer fee as many have been left surprised at how low his exit price was.

Some reports suggested that Leeds were going to receive £6.5million plus add-ons for Gelhardt.

BBC journalist Mike White has contradicted that detail on Monday, suggesting that the actual fee is in the region of £4.5m plus add-ons.

That is said to be "more accurate" as conflicting stories continue to surround the deal.

Why Leeds will live to regret Gelhardt sale to Hull City

On the face of it, just £4.5m for a goalscoring forward is a terrible amount to receive.

That could be thanks in part to the injury he's picked up that looks likely to see him miss the start of the season.

Even still, it could prove to be a mistake to let him go, especially if Joel Piroe also departs Elland Road.

The striker looks set to leave for West Ham, while Gelhardt has already moved on.

The Englishman could have been a useful alternative to the 27-year-old, who only played 16 Premier League games last time around.

He scored and assisted goals in the Championship and could have made a positive impact at Elland Road.

Selling him for such a cheap price seems silly and could be something Daniel Farke and Co. live to regret.
