Chelsea join London clubs in transfer tug-of-war for Leeds United star Raphinha

Chelsea have joined Arsenal and Tottenham in the battle to attain the services of Raphinha this summer, according to the Telegraph.

The Brazil international has been the subject of transfer interest from a host of clubs, both in the Premier League and abroad.

Tottenham and Arsenal were the clubs English clubs showing the most interest in the Leeds United talisman, but now the Blues have joined the race to sign the Brazilian winger.

The Telegraph reported on Tuesday (28 June) that Chelsea are already deep in negotiations with Manchester City over the transfer of Raheem Sterling, and have reportedly been interested in Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele and Everton’s Richarlison.

Matt Law, football correspondent at The Telegraph, said: “Chelsea are giving serious consideration to rivalling Arsenal’s bid to sign Raphinha and adding the Leeds United star to a £100million new-look attack with Raheem Sterling.

“Chelsea have opened talks with Sterling and City about a move to Stamford Bridge, but are interested in signing another attacking player to boost head coach Thomas Tuchel’s squad.”

Raphinha – the man in demand

The Brazilian is quickly becoming one of the transfer sagas of the summer, with
some of the world’s biggest clubs battling it out for his signature.

It is easy to why the list of clubs interested in the former Sporting Lisbon
and Stade Rennais winger, as he topped the table for goal contributions for a
Leeds team who narrowly avoided relegation to the Championship last season.

The West Yorkshire club have already agreed a deal with Manchester City for
midfield linchpin, Kalvin Phillips, and losing Raphinha in the same summer will
be a tough pill to swallow for the club.

However, they have already begun to reinvest in the squad, with Brendan
Aaronson joining from Red Bull Salzburg last month.

The 21-year-old moved to Elland Road for an undisclosed fee and it is
rumoured that Jesse Marsch is also pondering a move to for exciting Club Brugge
midfielder, Charles de Ketelaere.

However, more reinforcements will definitely be required to strengthen a
squad which will look depleted with the departures of two of its most
dependable and valuable assets.
