Charlie Crew to join Joe Gelhardt in Leeds United loan exit

Charlie Crew is expected to join Joe Gelhardt in departing Leeds United on loan this month, according to Darren Witcoop.

The journalist posted on X [12 January] that Hull City look to have won the race for Gelhardt after the forward undertook a medical on Sunday [James Hoggarth], while Crew could be the next to head out on loan.

A loan had been mooted for the teenage Welshman prior to the season and it seems he will be allowed to leave should a club show suitable interest.

Leeds United need to work on incomings at Elland Road

While securing loan moves for some of their fringe players and youngsters is crucial, the addition of quality to the senior squad is an absolute must if they are to maintain their hunt for promotion.

As it stands, the Whites occupy the summit of the Championship but with Crewe and Gelhardt both allowed to leave on loan, added to the transfer interest in Patrick Bamford [The Sun], the squad is getting smaller and smaller.

Having sufficient depth will be paramount to any success this season and, while Crew isn’t that immediate depth, he’s another option that looks set to be taken away from Daniel Farke.

There is still plenty of time for Leeds to deal in the transfer business but the lack of noise from the club in terms of incoming is growing with concern.

Nevertheless, a loan move for Crew would be hugely beneficial for his development with the chance of securing first-team football way from Elland Road.
