Cameron Archer has been left out of the Southampton squad to face Ipswich Town on 1 February and it may be cause for optimism at Leeds United amid links to the forward.

Leeds United are yet to add to their squad this winter but recent links to Southampton's Archer [Ben Jacobs] has provided some optimism that that could be close to coming to an end.

That speculation will only intensify as Southampton have left Archer of their Premier League matchday squad although it is believed to be due to injury [Isaac Johnson].

With that said, there could still be something in his omission from the squad and time will certainly tell if that is to be the case.

Leeds United to sign Cameron Archer?

Leeds, although they are sitting comfortably at the top of the Championship, need to utilise the final days of the transfer window.

Should they sign Archer, it would be a huge bit of business and likely one that would boost their promotion hopes significantly with his proven track record of scoring at this level.

His ability to play various roles in attack would be a welcome addition to Elland Road and would provide Joel Piroe with the competition he perhaps needs to up his game to the next level.

Quite frankly, it would be a huge shock if the Whites finish the window without any winter additions but as things stand, it is a real possibility.

Of course, signings shouldn't be made for the sake of it, but while other teams have been strengthening their squad, Leeds have done very little and time is running out.
