Cameron Archer's proposed move to Elland Road is the "top priority" for Leeds United before the transfer window closes, according to TEAMtalk.

The online source reports [31 January] that while Southampton are reluctant to sell the striker before 3 February, the Whites are hoping for a late twist in the transfer saga.

It is understood that while Sevilla's Kelechi Iheanacho has been linked with a move to Elland Road, that deal is not currently being worked on by those at the Yorkshire club.

Cameron Archer to Leeds United to be completed before 3 February?

A move to the Championship for Archer makes total sense for all parties, with the 23-year-old only notching two goals in the Premier League so far this season.

He has also come off the bench more times than he has started in the division, suggesting that the Saints can do without his presence in the squad, especially after their new signings at St Mary's Stadium.

Leeds are currently the highest-scoring team in the Championship right now, boasting more goals than the likes of Sheffield United, Burnley and Sunderland, which sees them sitting atop the league table.

However, that does not mean Daniel Farke cannot add to his current squad and improve it, especially when it comes to the consistency of goalscoring amongst the attacking stars.

Only Joel Piroe has double-digit goals in the league, with Brenden Aaronson and Dan James both on seven goals, with Manor Solomon slightly behind with five.

Last season, Crysencio Summerville, James, and Piroe all finished the campaign with over 10 goals, with the former almost hitting 30 goal contributions, including his assists.

Given Archer's experience in the second tier of English football, he could certainly be a player to give Leeds the attacking edge they need to secure their spot at the top of the Championship.
