Report: Title-chasing side in talks with Leeds 23yo, contract offer made ahead of last-gasp move
Rangers have held talks with Leeds United goalkeeper Kamil Miazek and made a contract offer to the 23-year-old as they hope to land him late in the January transfer window.
According to Football Insider, Leeds have told Rangers that they are open to letting him go and that could see him becoming the back-up keeper for the Scottish giants.
Miazek has been playing for the Under-23s but Leeds signed Illan Meslier as the back-up to Kiko Casilla and also brought in 18-year-old Elia Caprile in this transfer window.
That has seemingly seen Miazek become surplus to requirements, although he started for the Under-23s in the 2-2 draw with Wolves last week.
Meslier made his first-team debut for Leeds in the FA Cup loss to Arsenal and is expected to step up to replace Casilla if the Leeds number one gets banned in his upcoming hearing for racist abuse.
Miazek came up through the youth ranks at Feyenoord before spending a year at second-tier Polish side Chojniczanka Chojnice.
He moved to Leeds in October 2017 and has made the bench 13 times in the Championship without making an appearance.
The thinking around Leeds is that he was only on the bench ahead of Meslier this season because the club had too many loan players on the books. You’re only allowed five in your matchday squad.
Since Jack Clarke was recalled, Meslier has taken his place on the first-team bench and now it looks like Miazek has come to the end of his Elland Road career.
A move to work with Steven Gerrard’s Rangers gives him another chance to shine on the big stage, with their number one Allan McGregor nearing the end of his career at 37.
Rangers are in a real race for the title this season after years of playing second fiddle to Celtic.
