Brenden Aaronson breaks silence as Leeds United table two bids for USA star

Brenden Aaronson refused to talk about transfer speculation when he was asked about reported bids from Leeds United.

According to The Athletic, Leeds have tabled two offers to Red Bull Salzburg in a bid to sign the 21-year-old midfielder, with the latest bid [21 January] being worth £20million.

Aaronson has left Austria to join up with the USA squad ahead of their upcoming World Cup qualifiers this week and next week.

And speaking to the US media, Aaronson was asked about a potential move to Leeds, as relayed by The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.

“I’m not going to talk about that,” said Aaronson, as quoted by Hay on his personal Twitter account on Monday night [24 January].

“It’s a subject I don’t want to talk about right now. I’m away from it, I’m really not worried about it. I’m just worried about getting wins with America.”

Standard response

It’s very, very rare that a player will come out and talk about transfer speculation that’s surrounding their future.

Aaronson will have no doubt been briefed by Salzburg’s media team, as well as the USA’s, because the links to Leeds United were obviously going to be asked about.

Aaronson’s reply doesn’t give anything away, it’s as bland as you can get.

But that’s not a bad thing. If anything it is a good thing as it shows that this guy is a team player who doesn’t want to distract himself from his football by making everything about him.

Leeds fans will no doubt keep their eyes peeled to see how Aaronson performs for the USA over the coming week or so.

On Friday [28 January], the States welcome El Salvador to Columbus, Ohio in a World Cup qualifier and Aaronson is likely to be involved.

While playing such a team won’t give us much of an idea as to how the midfielder will perform in the Premier League, a strong performance may force Leeds to bid even more for the Salzburg star.

In other Leeds United news, Hay has mooted the possibility of this Bielsa favourite being loaned out before the deadline.
